What Did You Learn?
A feature article from our friends at the GRL DAD Newsletter.
We wanted to share this great post from our friends at the GRL DAD Newsletter with you this week!
If you’re a proud father of girls, this newsletter is a great read!
Enjoy!
Hey brother,
Have you ever thought about the kind of mindset you're modeling for your daughter?
It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle of day-to-day life, ticking boxes and fixing problems.
But there’s a superpower I want you to explore: the growth mindset.
A growth mindset is about seeing life as a continuous learning journey.
Embracing a growth mindset means acknowledging that you're not perfect—and that's perfectly okay.
It's understanding that challenges aren’t roadblocks; they're stepping stones to betterment. It’s about swapping "I can’t do this" with "I can’t do this yet." Imagine the power of that tiny word, yet. It’s a game-changer, my friend.
Every day, we ask our daughters to try new things, to not give up, to keep learning. Whether it's tying her shoes, riding a bike, or tackling math homework.
Now, ask yourself, how often do you tackle new challenges with that same enthusiasm? Are you showing her that learning is not just for kids, but for dads too?
This isn't just about picking up new skills or going back to school. It's about showing curiosity in the little things.
Maybe it's learning how to cook her favorite meal just right, understanding the ins and outs of her favorite game, or even picking up the basics of coding to help her with her school project. It's showing her that dad is learning right alongside her, every step of the way.
The way we react to our mistakes is just as important.
Every slip-up is a chance to show her that mistakes aren't just acceptable, they're essential.
They’re the most honest teachers, and each one is an opportunity to grow. When she sees you learn from a mistake, not only does it teach her resilience, but it also makes it safe for her to mess up and keep going.
Let's set the bar. Let’s be dads who read, who ask questions, who seek out new experiences, and who admit when we don’t have all the answers.
Let’s ditch the pride and show our daughters that the coolest dads are the ones who never stop learning.
Let's show our daughters that learning doesn’t end with school. It’s lifelong, and it’s life-changing.
